Mr. Antojo’s has the best Sonoran hot dogs in town, and those bacon-wrapped cheese-stuffed peppers are amazing.
For those of you who don’t know, a Sonoran Hot Dog is a bacon-wrapped hot dog with pinto beans, onions, tomatoes (sometimes pico de gallo) , mustard, jalapeno sauce and mayo. What makes Mr. Antojo’s special is the addition of guacamole, chorizo, carne asada sauce and queso.

Sobbing. I need this.
I’m really pleased you guys found this and reblogged it. Patricia was really disgusted by these things when I first introduced them to her, but once I finally convinced her to try it she was immediately in love. I think we ate them at least once a week last time she visited. The Sonora, Mexico/Arizona border has a really vibrant street food scene. There’s something like 300 street venders in Tucson and Phoenix combined, and even more than that in Hermosillo and Cuidad Juarez. It’s sort of an intergal part of their huge club scene and continues to evolve. Apparently adding mangos, pineapple and even crushed chips is really popular right now.
Patricia and I have noticed quite a few bastardized gringo recipes sprout up on Tumblr lately, but it’s kind of hard to know what these things really taste like unless you can find a legit Mexican panaderia in your area. The bun is actually a boilillo, which is a kind of super soft and sweet croissant-esque roll. I’ve admittedly never been to Hot Doug’s, but I have friends who say this thing blows their entire menu out of the water.
